Data Privacy for Build Pilipinas Events
Build Pilipinas puts premium value to the privacy and security of personal data entrusted by its stakeholders (e.g. volunteers, donors, and members) for legitimate purposes.
We aim to comply with Republic Act No. 10173, otherwise known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA), and to cooperate fully with the National Privacy Commission (NPC). We regard your privacy with utmost importance.
Build Pilipinas is committed to meeting both your personal privacy, which is important to us, and ensuring that our genuine and legitimate interests as an educational institution and our ability to fully and effectively carry out our responsibilities as such are met.
- Personal Data Collected and Manner of Collection
The information you provide us when you submit a form, either physically or electronically, to volunteer, or participate in a Build Pilipinas event collects information about your personal circumstance and contact information such as – but not limited to – name, your email address, mobile number, social media handle and other contact details, as well as dietary or special needs, etc.
On forms submitted in this website, the terms, “personal data” and “information” are used interchangeably. When we speak of “personal data”, the term includes the concepts of personal information, sensitive personal information, and privileged information, as defined in the DPA.
- Use and Purpose for Processing of Personal Data
We collect your personal data that includes those you provide to us when you submit a registration form for a Build Pilipinas event, a call for volunteers, members or donation for the following purposes:
- Processing and reporting of documentations related to the event;
- Announcement of events, activities, programs, and other related activities offered or organized by BUILD Pilipinas, including promotions for future events of BUILD Pilipinas;
- Call for fund raising, donation, volunteer participation or membership;
- Other legitimate purposes, including but not limited to profiling, system or product development, complaints management and administrative purposes.
C. Access and Sharing of Information
Your personal information is accessed and used by Build Pilipinas, specifically its Secretariat or the Secretariat of each event that have legitimate interest in it for the purpose of carrying out their mandated duties.
In its line of business, Build Pilipinas may share the information collected to its third party partners for providing services on health, safety, and security during the event as far as permitted or required by law.
D. Data Protection, Risks and Data Breach
Build Pilipinas endeavors to always ensure the security of all personal data in its possession. Build Pilipinas shall implement reasonable and appropriate organizational, physical, and technical security measures for the protection of personal data which we collected.
The security measures shall aim to maintain the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of
personal data and are intended for the protection of personal data against any accidental or
unlawful destruction, alteration, and disclosure, as well as against any other unlawful processing.
We only permit your data to be accessed or processed by our authorized personnel who
hold such information under strict confidentiality.
Any data security incident or breach that comes to the knowledge of Build Pilipinas will be recorded and reported as required by law. Build Pilipinas will take all necessary and reasonable steps to address such incident or breach and mitigate any negative effect of such incident or breach. If there is strong suspicion that an incident affects your personal information, Build Pilipinas will notify you of such incident in an appropriate manner.
E. Storage, Retention and Data Destruction
Event registration as well as volunteer database will be retained for a period of one (1) year from 14 January 2024. Donor’s database will be retained for twenty-four (24) months from the period beginning the last time you donated.
F. Rights of Data Subject
- Right to be Informed – You have the right to know when your personal data shall be, are being, or haven been processed.
- Right to Access – You have the right to reasonable access, upon written request, the contents of your personal data being processed and how these data are being processed, the sources from which the data has been obtained; the recipients and reasons for disclosure; and when your data was last modified.
Right to Object – You have the choice of refusing to consent, as well as the choice to withdraw consent, as regards the collection and processing of your personal data.
- Right to Rectify Incorrect Data – You have the right to correct any inaccuracy or error in your personal data and may request Build Pilipinas to correct it.
- Right to Erase or Block – Based on reasonable grounds, you have the right to suspend, withdraw or order the blocking, removal, erasure or destruction of your personal data from its system.
- Right to Secure Data Portability – Where your personal data is processed by electronic means and in a structured and commonly used format, you have the right to obtain a copy of your personal data for your further use, subject to the guidelines of the National Privacy Commission with regard to exercising such right.
- Right to be Compensated for Damages – You have the right to be compensated for any damage sustained due to inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, false, unlawfully obtained or unauthorized use of personal data.

H. Changes to the Privacy Policy/Amendments
Build Pilipinas reserves the right to update or change sections of this Policy any time and without prior notice. We will exert reasonable efforts to reach out to you should there be any significant changes.
